Hard Candy, So Sweet

We run our fingernails over
Shards of glass in concrete
As we sit in our misery.

From time to time though,
The misery sits on us,
The walls of nails and
Broken glass fall,
Pushing us down into the same ground
We recover on.

The misery is in the walls,
And we need the walls,
The misery, the nails, the concrete,
The broken glass,
Else the roof collapse.

But that doesn’t make misery’s
Smell of cancerous rotting
Any more bearable;
The stench of blood
And tears seeping through
Every crack in the window pane,
So insistent, so strong that we
Can taste it, gripping at the back
Of our throats.

About DickensianJack

Born in Wolverhampton in November '93, moved to Huddersfield in September 2012. Studying at the University of Huddersfield. In love with the town - simple as that. As for the blog itself, I've been doing bits and pieces of writing (with varying quality) for a few years. A friend suggested I start a blog to share my work. Most of the stuff on here is poems, but there's other work interspersed on the page. Feel free to leave any comments on my work. Twitter: @DickensianJack (Jack Dickens) Facebook: www.facebook.com/dickensianjack Cheers, enjoy.
