Cruelty and Honesty, Part 3 of 3

If what I’m saying sounds like it’s over the top,
That’s probably because it is,
But there’s a difference between
Cruelty and honesty,
It’s like life and lies,
And it’s knowing the difference between
Cruelty and honesty,
Knowing the difference between the two,
That’s the difference between me and you.

There’s no line between them
Because they’re places where we’ve all gone,
But where the rest of us fell on both sides,
You settled in one.
Where you don’t sit, or watch, or commit

‘Cause you can be cruel by doin’ nothin’,
Doin’ and sayin’ absolutely fuck all.
But my honesty, my honesty is
Building a wall, six fuckin’ feet tall,
And made of nothing but
Dry leaves and thorns.

If it turns out you’re alive,
I’ll throw you a lighter
(the wall’s just six tall after all),
And if that wall never falls,
I’ll know you’ve lit up and walked away.

But if I should see your face
Through the smoke
That was once leaves and thorns,
I’ll ask only to see you smile,
So that
My feet fly a few inches above the ground
On the walk home.

About DickensianJack

Born in Wolverhampton in November '93, moved to Huddersfield in September 2012. Studying at the University of Huddersfield. In love with the town - simple as that. As for the blog itself, I've been doing bits and pieces of writing (with varying quality) for a few years. A friend suggested I start a blog to share my work. Most of the stuff on here is poems, but there's other work interspersed on the page. Feel free to leave any comments on my work. Twitter: @DickensianJack (Jack Dickens) Facebook: Cheers, enjoy.
